This prom piece used shades of blue and white, inspired by the amazing amounts of snow our area received this winter. The patterns originally began as snowflake-themed and then developed into the snow-and-swirls that can be seen in the pictures. We wanted to go for a sophisticated, elegant look, so the outfit was planned with a geometric theme in the vest and skirt panels. Since we share an interest in the medieval era, the corset lacing-up style was used for the dress, and a practical panel style was used for the skirt rather than something more flamboyant. Since the rules allowed for other materials, we made the dress bodice and the tie out of soda tabs woven together with strips of duct tape- it adds up to over a thousand tabs! It also carries the hint of medieval, since it looks a little like colorful chain mail.
